Goblins and an Octopus

It's been a long time since i've done any sketch cards so i thought i'd do a few. I decided to take a crack at some Spidey villains. More to come.

These are a little less "cute" then my previous ones. I'm not sure if i like it or not. I'd love to hear your thoughts!

If you're interested in purchasing any of these shoot me an email at mjkaufenberg(at)hotmail(dot)com.

Cap'n Crunch WIP

I love that Quaker Oats is currently using the old vintage style of Cap'n Crunch for their cereal boxes. I hope this trend continues!

In honor of that, i thought i'd do a drawing of him. Here's a small preview.

Big Boa

The 4th and final piece of the "Cobra the Enemy" series (for now). Picking the 4th one was hard. I mulled over many of my favorites as well as fan-favorites like Zartan and Firefly, and then i remembered Big Boa.

Big Boa was one my first first GI Joe figures and he's remained a favorite throughout the years. His mask and removable boxing gloves are just too cool!

I wonder what he looks like under that mask...

Big Boa WIP

The last "Cobra the Enemy" character for the series. Big Boa was always one of my favorite action figures...probably because he came with boxing gloves. Well that, and his cool helmet of course.

Done in Sketchbook Pro.

And don't worry...i do have a Dreadnoks series planned so you'll see Zartan there.

Trap Jaw

One of my favorite characters from the toyline. I was fortunate enough to find one at a garage sale this past weekend along with a bunch of other cool comic-related stuff. I'll post more about those soon.

Doc Savage - The Squeaking Goblin

I've started collecting old Doc Savage novels and i'm currently reading #35, "The Squeaking Goblin."

I thought it would be fun to draw a character from each book as i'm reading them so here's the first entry. I really enjoyed drawing in this style.

Addams Family - Gomez

I was doing some sketching tonight just for the fun of it and eventually it turned into something that looked like Gomez from The Addams Family. I enjoyed it so much i decided to do an Addams Family theme for this month. It won't be everyday but at least it's something!

I think i'm going to keep them at this smaller size. I do my sketching in Sketchbook Pro and i zoom WAYYY in so my sketches are always pretty small. Normally i'd bring them into photoshop and enlarge them for inking but i think i'm just going to leave them as tiny sketches.

July

Sorry for the lack of posts. We had some water in our basement friday (here in my office) so i haven't been able to even use this room. I think i'm going to stop with the illustration project this month. I've missed a lot of days and things just seem to keep getting in the way.

Yaksquatch Vinyl Toy Design

No illustration for today but i thought i'd share this with you. I have an old dunny toy laying around that i've been wanting to customize so here's the design for it...good ol' Yaksquatch. I'm also going to sculpt a skateboard to go with him.

I'm still tweaking the design a bit so i'll update this image as i go.

Missing in Action

I've missed a few days but i'll be back soon.

Of course i had to do Invincible himself...

Day 13 - The Immortal

Something a little different today. I'm really in an Invincible (by Robert Kirkman and Ryan Ottley) mood so i thought i'd draw up the Immortal. He was fun.

Day 6 and 7

Here is yesterday's sketch along with today's. I decided to stop doing the playing card design since it was taking to much time and i wanted these to be simple and fast. Instead i'll be doing just head shots and adding one or two colors to them. I think these are my favorite so far.

So here is Stuie Stuntman and Larry Lumberjack. Enjoy!

Oops...

I was working on a little project yesterday (turning an old water ski into a longboard) and when i was done i fell asleep and forgot to finish up my illustration for the day. I'll post that soon so there will be two coming today.

Day 1 - Lenny Lonestar

Here is the first entry for July's project. I decided to do 31 head sketches and turn them into a set of cards in the vein of Crazy Eights and Old Maid. I always loved the goofy characters from those games.

I'm doing them all on sketch cards and they're only going to be in black and white for now but after i finish them i might throw some color (and design) on them and print them up as a deck of cards. We'll see.

Enjoy!

LilRingo.com

Hey peeps, sorry about the lack of posts here lately. I've been busy with a comic strip for the local baseball team. It's called Li'l Ringo and is based on their mascot. You can check it out at lilringo.com

(This was the test image i did for them, the actual comic looks a little different).

I think i might do an illustration-a-day project in July so stay tuned for more info on that.

Lastly, i know everyone has probably forgotten about the March of the Monsters book haha but i AM still working on it when i can and will hopefully have a proof soon. Designing a book and laying it out has been a lot harder than i thought (especially since i always need everything to look perfect before i'm happy with it). I'll keep you all updated on it's progress.

Update

Well as you can see there's no Illustration project for June either. Things have been really hectic and my wife and i are currently looking for a new place to rent so we'll also be moving soon. I'm also doing a comic strip for the local baseball team here so that's taking up a lot of my time. If i can, i'll post some of that here.

I'm still working on getting the March book out and i should have some updates on that soon. I'm hoping to have it done by mid-june if my schedule permits it. Thanks for all the support!

No Illustration-a-Day Project in May

I really wanted to do another illustration project this month but i just don't have the time for it. Between getting ready for Spring Con, putting the March of the Monsters book together, and working on freelance projects, this month is going to be pretty busy.

I'm hoping to do another one soon though (possibly June or July).

Also, like i mention above, i'm still working on the March of the Monsters book and will hopefully have that finished in the next two or three weeks. Stay tuned!

Logo

Here is a glimpse at the logo i created to go along with the comic that will be in the book.

Yaksquatch and Emily

A sneak peek at some of the extra content for the March of the Monsters book. This is part of a 4-panel comic. I don't think i'll post the actual comic until the book's been out for awhile.
